1. What did you do in 2012 that you'd never done before?
I joined a gym. The local YMCA is our workout place of choice!
2. Did you keep your New Years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I didn't make any resolutions last year, but I do have one for this upcoming year! I resolve to reach my goal weight!
3. Did anyone close to you add children to their families?
My good friend at work, Sarah, had a beautiful baby girl: Sicily Mae.
4. Did anyone close to you die?
Nope.
5. What countries did you visit?
We stayed in the good old US of A this year (again)
6. What would you like to have in 2012 that you lacked in 2011?
A bit more organization. Being a busy Mom, I'm always striving for more organization.
7. What date from 2012 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
I honestly can't think of one particular day that really stands out above the rest... maybe Ty's third birthday? We threw him a fun farm/tractor themed party.
8. What was your biggest achievement this year?
I really focused on my health this year. We joined a gym, and I worked really hard at getting into shape and losing weight. I've lost around 40 pounds so far, and feel great! A few health problems that I was experiencing are almost 100% resolved. I have a few more pounds to lose and then I'll reach my goal weight!
9. What was your biggest failure?
I try not to focus on the negative. I'm a glass half-full kind of gal.
10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
This past fall I was so sick with bronchitis. It lasted over a month, until I got a prescription for a Zpack.
11. What was the best thing you bought?
The usual things, new clothes and stuff.
12. Who's behavior merited celebration?
Tyler - he was having some trouble with his ears last Spring, and we had his hearing tested. Turns out, he wasn't hearing well at all due to chronic fluid in his inner ear! Once he had tubes placed, his hearing was fully restored. He was such a good boy during that trial, and we are so proud of him!
13. Who's behavior made you appalled and depressed?
I would not post that here!
14. Where did most of your money go?
The mortgage and daycare.
15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
We had the opportunity to share a 5th wheel trailer in the summer with my brother and sister-in-law! We had so many fun times at the lake. I was always super excited to head up north!
16. What song will always remind you of 2012?
"They're two they're four they're six they're eight
Shunting trucks and hauling freight
red and green and brown and blue
they're the really useful crew
All with different roles to play
Round Tidmouth sheds or far away,
Down the hills and round the bends
Thomas and his friends..."
17. Compared to this time last year, are you: i. happier or sadder? Happier. ii. thinner or fatter? Thinner (a lot). iii. richer or poorer? Hard to say! Probably broke about even!
18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
Organizing and decluttering.
19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Worrying about the behavior of others.
20. How will you be spending this New Years Eve?
Staying in and having family time.
22. Did you fall in love in 2012?
Not with anyone new!
23. How many one-night stands?Um, ZERO!
24. What was your favorite TV program?
Mad Men!
25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
I can't say that I *hate* anyone. There are some people I dislike, but do not hate.
26. What was the best book you read?
I've been re-reading Janet Evanovich's number series. One of my favorites!
27. What was your greatest musical discovery?
Hmm. Not sure.
28. What did you want and get?A Nook Color e-reader.
30. What was your favorite film of this year?
Despicable Me :)
31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
We went out for dinner to Brann's with my family. Always a good time!
32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
This was a very satisfying year. I can't think of anything.
33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2012?
A bit trendier, maybe? :) I'm liking skinny jeans now.
34. What kept you sane?
My hubby, Tyler, and my parents.
35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
It's been fun following Duchess Kate and her pregnancy.
36. What political issue stirred you the most?
Obamacare. Being frustrated as things become more expensive... "the fiscal cliff".
37. Who did you miss?
Chris' Dad.
38. Who was the best new person you met?
Not sure...
39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2012:
You don't have to tolerate bad behavior. Stand up for yourself, if you don't - no one else will, either!
40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:
"Well, it's okay. It's so nice
It's just another day in paradise
Well, there's no place that
I'd rather be
Well, it's two hearts
And one dream
I wouldn't trade it for anything
And I ask the Lord every night
For just another day in paradise" - Phil Vassar

just a little update
Ty is sick again, another cold. Poor peanut. He's got a pretty runny nose and a persistent cough. I was going to bring him to get his flu vaccine today, but I think I'm going to reschedule. I know that it's not contraindicated to get a vaccine when you have a virus, but I had my flu shot last week and had 2-3 days of that icky, coming down with a cold feeling. That would feel awful on top of a cold! I was also hoping to get him Flu Mist (the inhalation one), and I think with how stuffy he is, it wouldn't work too well. Let's hope for a great nap today!
Last weekend was busy and fun, and it went waaay too fast. It was my short weekend (only 2 days off), and they always fly by. We went to a party at Chris' sister's house Saturday night, and then Sunday we had church, lunch at my parents', and before we knew it, it was time to go back to work Monday morning. I also had six hours of call on Saturday and didn't end up having to go in! I never know whether to be happy or sad when I don't get called in. On one hand... the call-back pay is VERY nice! But on the other hand, it's good to be able to stay home with my little family.
Tyler's third birthday is coming up very soon!! About two more weeks. We are planning a special party for him. Ty knows he's having a "farm/tractor party" - in his words :) and he asks me every day when it's going to be time for his party. I'm trying to come up with a good idea for his birthday treat at school. They are peanut-free, so that makes a lot of things a no-go. I'm thinking about those Lofthouse cookies - the treat must be store bought. I'm going to have to check if they are peanut free!

Potty training
The cloth trainers that I ordered for Tyler came today! How cute ate they?
Is it silly to say that I'm excited to try them out? The liners are supposed to "feel wet" when your child has an accident, to help them learn not to pee in their pants! I'll try them for a few days (at home, not school) and post my thoughts later!

upside/downside
Upside: Today is another Mommy and Tyler day! We woke up, had breakfast, and started cleaning the house. Ty was watching a video downstairs, and I went to go start a load of laundry. Only to find...
Downside: Our water was off. To the whole house. My first thought? "I paid the water bill, I know I did!" - ha ha! So I called the township office, and found out our town had a water main break, and we'd be without water for several hours. That meant I couldn't do much housework, so...
Upside: Tyler and I decided to go out and run a few errands! We got in the car...
Downside: and heard a funny "spinning" sound. We drove it to the dealership, and found out that it's going to cost lots and lots of dollars to fix my poor car. As in, so much that it makes me sick to my stomach. Ugh. And we were thinking about selling the car!
Upside: I brought a picture to Hobby Lobby and had it framed. The lady gave me a random 50% off discount for the frame! That was nice of her :)
Upside: and when we got back home, our water was back on. Woo hoo!
Too bad that I can't magically make my car fix itself for free. So, now we're back home and I'm sitting down to a cup of vanilla chai tea before I get to work on the house. My Dad had some good wisdom for me when I called and gave him my tale of woe. He reminded me that in the grand scheme of things, these are such LITTLE things to be upset about. It's not so bad after all.

These are a few of my favorite things
In no certain order!
1) Adjustable waist pants (for Tyler, not myself!) - since trying these with my skinny minny, I have been able to buy pants that are long enough for him! Ty is long and lean. I think that the adjustable waist is one of the greatest inventions in kids' clothing since footie pajamas!
2) The Clarisonic Mia. One of the best skin-care products I have ever owned! It makes my skin so smooth, and makes my makeup last longer after I apply it. After I use it, my skin just feels cleaner. You can buy them all over the place now, but I know that Sephora carries lots of cute color - mine is raspberry :). I like to use it with Philosophy's Purity Made Simple cleanser, but if I'm out of that, Cetaphil works very well, too.

3) Cleaners from Mrs. Meyer's. Specifically, in basil. This scent is simply amazing! I use it in our kitchen, they have a great countertop spray. It is so fresh, and the scent lasts for a long time. I also have their all-purpose cleaner, which I sometimes use when I mop the kitchen floor. I love that their products are natural, too - without harsh chemicals. We have enough chemicals we're exposed to, we don't need more on our kitchen floor!
4) 3-Wick candles from Bath & Body Works - I am big into home-fragrance, and I have a lot of candles. By far, these are my favorites! The wax is very clean burning, and it rarely leaves any soot behind. With the 3 wicks, I find I do not have much tunneling at all - the candles burn evenly across. They also have a nice throw, the scent is typically strong, but not overwhelming. Love them!weekend recap
This has been a fun and busy weekend! Here's how we spent it!
Friday I had the day off of work. It was a "Mommy and Tyler Day" as my little one puts it! We cleaned house in the morning, and then the carpet cleaners came by in the afternoon. Our carpet looks so nice and fresh! They did a very good job. They even gave us a small discount which we used to Scotchguard our living room carpet. Friday night we were going to go out, but decided we were all too tired and just stayed in instead! Sometimes those are the best kind of nights. And cheap, too!
Saturday Tyler and I slept in a little bit, how wonderful! Chris woke up early and puttered around in the garage and over at his parents' house. Ty and I did some laundry, baked our bread for the week, and had a very nice, relaxing morning/afternoon. In the evening, we had a wedding to go to! Tyler had fun over at Grandma R's house eating chicken nuggets, playing in the sandbox, and watching movies! Chris and I had a great time at our friends' wedding. It was very beautiful and a fun night out.
Sunday, we got up and went to church. Tyler was a bit sleepy and was fairly cranky, so after a quick bite to eat I got him to lay down for a nap. In the afternoon, we had a family reunion with some of Chris' extended relatives. It was fun to meet some members of Chris' family (2nd and 3rd cousins) and catch up with the rest of the family! This evening has been laid back. I'm even thinking about going to bed early... unheard of for me! I have become such a night owl!

five question friday
1. Do you prefer to drive to your vacation spot or fly? It depends how far away the vacation spot is! If the drive is within 6 hours or so, I'd prefer to drive so we'd have our own car. Much longer than that, I'd prefer to fly. Although flying with a young child is a challenge in and of itself!
2. If you could live any where in the world, where would you go and why? I really like where we live now. We have four beautiful seasons, and my life is here. I wouldn't want to be far from family.
3. Should grown women wear leggings? It depends on your body type. You need to be quite thin to make leggings look halfway decent.
4. If you could change your name to any other name, would you? And what would it be? I don't think I'd change my name. I like it just the way it is!
5. What magazines to you have subscriptions to? I currently subscribe to Parents, Martha Steward Living, Taste of Home, and Better Homes & Garden.

Tylerisms
Now that Tyler is almost three, he is just talking up a storm. He says so many hilarious things! I have to write some of them down so I'll remember them later.
"Thank you for fixing our dishwater, man!" Our new dishwasher was not working right, so we had a repairman come out. For some reason, Ty thinks our dishwasher is called the dishWATER :) and I do not have the heart to correct him! Also, if he doesn't know what someone's name is, he refers to them as "man" or "lady".
"Yes you don't!" I must say "Oh no you don't" to Tyler fairly often... when I do, he always replies to me, "Yes you don't!"
"I've got to be three" Whenever anyone asks Tyler how old he is going to be, instead of saying "I'm going to be three", he says "I've got to be three".
What surprises me, though, is that Tyler really speaks well. Most of the time is grammar is correct (or very close to it!). Can I just say that I absolutely love this age? It is so much fun. Tyler really is a good little boy. I think we came through the "terrible twos" fairly unscathed! I have been warned, though, that sometimes three can be more difficult than two... so we shall see!

it's been awhile!
I've decided to try my hardest to keep a blog detailing our family life. I've always loved to write. I think that as time goes on, I will enjoy looking back and being able to recall memories that might otherwise fade into the background! Here's a general update on our family.
Tyler, our almost three-year-old, is a fun and busy boy. He loves Thomas the Train, tractors, anything farm-related, and candy! This past summer, we have had the wonderful opportunity to spend time camping! Tyler has become quite the little camper! He likes to dig in the dirt, go swimming in the lake and pool, go on boat rides, and sleep in his cubby bed in the trailer. He also enjoys Saturday mornings at the lake when we go into town for breakfast and shopping. One of the jewelry stores has a Gold Mine "tunnel" that Tyler begs to play in! And we always have to go to the kids' consignment shop. But most of all, he loves all the extra time he gets with his Grandma and Grandpa! When we are working, Tyler goes to a nearby preschool/childcare center. He just LOVES school! He's learning so much. He can sing his ABCs, count to twenty, he knows all of his colors, and is learning to pick out letters that are written. We are very thankful for the care Tyler receives while we are away at work! We are working on potty training, and so far so good! We are very excited about Tyler's 3rd birthday party next month. We decided to do a farm/tractor theme!
Chris is doing well. He has gotten back into guitar playing this past year. He bought two new guitars! He is still an avid hunter, mainly hunting deer and geese right now. He had a very fun goose season and has been enjoying grilling goose breast for dinner. He's been keeping very busy this year keeping up the grass and yardwork at our house and over at his Mom and Dad's property. He was able to fix up his Dad's lawn tractor this summer, and it is now running beautifully! It's very special to Chris because it was used in the 1992 Indy 500 and was a treasure of his Dad's.
Megan (that's me!) - I'm still working at the hospital, odd hours still! It really works well for our family. I'm a bit sleep deprived, but sometimes I'll sneak a nap in with Tyler on my days off! I've recently learned how to bake bread from scratch, that has been a very fun new hobby. This summer I've taken up knitting again. One of the skills I'm working on is knitting in the round. I also enjoy keeping the house, and am always striving to be just a little bit more organized! My new motto is "a place for everything, and everything in it's place". It's a work in progress. I absolutely love being a Mom. Our son is my prize and joy!
Apple Orchard
Today, I went with Tyler's preschool class to a local apple orchard! We had a great time. We went on a tractor ride, got to see how apple cider is made, and enjoyed fresh donuts and apple cider. Sadly, in our area there are no local apples this year! We had a very warm, early Spring and the apple trees blossomed too soon, and they froze. This particular apple orchard has shipped in apples from a nearby town. We had a wonderful field trip, it was great to spend time with my little man!
